Egypt's Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health and Population have announced the allocation of over one billion Egyptian pounds to treat 60,000 uninsured low-income individuals as part of the social protection package, an official statement said on Wednesday. Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced 3 billion pounds to fund various medical procedures, including oncology, heart, brain, nerve, orthopaedic surgeries, catheterisation, and organ transplants. According to the statement, the state budget and healthcare institutions annually support the treatment of approximately 2.355 million cases across various medical specialities throughout all governorates. State-funded treatment allocations have increased by around 3 billion pounds from March to June 2025 to speed up the completion of waiting lists, prioritising treating a higher number of cases during Ramadan and April, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr.
