Egypt's Damietta Port received two new giant quay cranes shipped by Chinese ship (CHANG YANG DONG FANG) as part of the completion of superstructure works by Damietta Alliance Company for the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal, the Cabinet reported on Monday. Damietta Alliance Container Terminals is enhancing its operations with the addition of 12 new giant quay cranes from Chinese company HHMC. The terminal is set to open soon as per schedule, the statement added. These cranes have a lifting capacity of 75 tons and head of 57.5 metres from the dock surface, allowing them to handle large container ships carrying up to 11 containers in height efficiently. The crane's boom is 72m long, enabling it from handling modern container ships. The new cranes feature advanced safety systems like sensors, surveillance cameras, and protection systems to ensure safety during dock operations and loading/unloading on ships. The cranes also facilitate integration with intelligent port management systems, allowing for real-time monitoring of operations and ensuring optimal efficiency and coordination among different operational departments in the terminal. The giant quay cranes have arrived, with 5 out of 12 in place, along with 20 electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes out of 40. These eco-friendly yard cranes enhance the station's efficiency and sustainability. This modern equipment is a key component of the strategy to transition towards eco-friendly operations, helping to decrease carbon emissions, in alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
