Egypt and Equatorial Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in housing and urban development. The agreement focuses on knowledge exchange and collaboration in engineering consultancy, housing projects, and infrastructure development, particularly in water and wastewater treatment plants, as per a Cabinet statement. Under the agreement, Egypt will support Equatorial Guinea's development plans by facilitating the entry of Egyptian contractors, building materials, and construction supplies. It also promotes knowledge sharing in urban planning and infrastructure development tailored to Equatorial Guinea's climate and urban expansion needs. The cooperation framework includes transferring Egypt's expertise in developing a new administrative capital in Oyala, training Equatorial Guinean engineers in infrastructure management, and introducing cost-effective construction technologies. Additionally, the MoU covers joint scientific seminars, workshops, exhibitions, professional forums, and capacity-building programmes in sustainable urban planning and energy-efficient housing. It also encourages city twinning initiatives and training opportunities for Equatorial Guinean professionals in Egypt in civil, hydraulic, industrial, and architectural engineering. To ensure effective implementation, both countries will establish a joint coordination committee comprising housing and urban development officials. The committee will oversee collaboration activities, plan official visits, and organise training programmes, with provisions for additional members as needed.
