Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 13 - 11 - 2024

Egypt's Computing Incident Response Team (EG-CIRT) and the Computing Incident Response Team for the Financial Sector (EG-FinCIRT) of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) have emerged victorious in the 12th Regional and OIC-CERT Cyber Drill.
The competition, hosted by the Arab Regional Cybersecurity Center (ITU-ARCC), focused on honing the skills of cybersecurity teams to effectively address the growing threat of cyberattacks. The Egyptian teams' success underscores the country's commitment to cybersecurity and its ability to protect critical infrastructure.
Sherif Hazem, CBE's Sub-Governor for Cybersecurity, emphasized the increasing importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding national security and economic interests. He highlighted the need for all sectors, particularly the banking and financial industry, to be vigilant and well-prepared to counter cyber threats.
Ibrahim Moustafa, Assistant Sub-Governor of the CBE and Director of EG-FinCIRT, praised the team's achievements in training cybersecurity professionals and enhancing the resilience of the banking sector. He emphasized the team's success in detecting and mitigating cyberattacks, safeguarding the stability of the financial system.
The competition featured realistic cyberattack simulations, testing the participants' ability to respond effectively to cyber threats. The Egyptian teams' outstanding performance demonstrates their expertise and preparedness in the face of evolving cyber challenges.
Noteworthy, the CBE's team attained the highest rankings in the specialised drills conducted, including, but not limited to, "Threat Hunting," "Ransomware Attack Defense," "SOC Analyst Challenge: Advanced Memory and Malware CTF," and the joint security maneuver for data breach incidents organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Oman and the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) "FIRST-ITU Oman Data Breach CTF."
