Egypt's food exports reached 188,000 tons in the week through September 27, marking a 13.2 per cent surge from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday. This impressive figure reflects a wide variety of over 536 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items. Egypt's vegetable export portfolio boasted 53 different varieties, with a total volume of around 33,000 tons. Sweet potatoes emerged as the top exports at 13,000 tons, while beans at 9,000 tons and onions also recorded 6,000 tons. Meanwhile, mango was the top exported fruit last week, with 10,000 tons, followed by pomegranates at 7,000 tons, and strawberries at 6,000 tons. Around 28,000 tons of 42 fruit varieties were exported. Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of September 21-27, shipments reached 155 countries.
