Egypt's food exports recorded 196,000 tons in the week through August 24-30, marking a 5.3 per cent surge from the previous week, the Cabinet cabinet said citing the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) on Sunday. This impressive figure reflects a wide variety of over 575 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items. Egypt's vegetable export portfolio boasted 64 different varieties, with a total volume of around 43,000 tons. Sweet potatoes were the top export at 13,000 tons, while beans and onions recorded 10,000 tons each. Meanwhile, mango was the top exported fruit last week, with 10,000 tons, followed by pomegranates at 8,000 tons, and strawberries at 5,000 tons. A total of around 25,000 tons of 52 fruit varieties were exported. Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of August 24-30, shipments reached 173 countries.
