Egypt's food exports recorded 186,000 tons in the week through August 17-23, marking a 11.4 per cent decline from the previous week, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported on Sunday. This impressive figure reflects a wide variety of over 642 fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food items. Egypt's vegetable export portfolio boasted 68 different varieties, with a total volume of around 39,000 tons. Beans were the top export at 13,000 tons, while sweet potatoes and frozen vegetables recorded 11,000 tons and 8,000 tons, respectively. Meanwhile, mango was the top exported fruit last week, with 10,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 7,000 tons, and pomegranates at 6,000 tons. In total, 58 fruit varieties were exported, totalling around 29,000 tons. Egyptian food exports cater to a vast international audience. During the week of August 17-23, shipments reached 166 countries. Sudan, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia, emerged as the top destinations for this bounty of Egyptian produce.
