'Revolution's Safeguard Prosecution' Provides More Evidence Against Mubarak

Spokesman of Egypt's general prosecution Mahmoud El-Hefnawi stated Saturday that the "revolution's safeguard prosecution" provided the criminal court retrying Hosni Mubarak with new evidence and testimonies regarding the killing of protesters during the January 25 Revolution.
Former president Mubarak, who was slapped with a life sentence last June for failing to protect peaceful protesters, was granted a retrial in January on appeal due to procedural irregularities in the initial trial.
On Saturday, Judge Mostafa Hassan Abdullah, presiding over the re-trial, recused himself and referred the case to the Cairo Appeals Court.
Facing re-trial along with Mubarak for their role in the murder of protesters during the 2011 uprising are Mubarak's former interior minister, Habib El-Adly, and six of his aides.
El-Hefnawi told Al-Ahram's Arabic-language news website that the binder of new evidence drafted by the fact-finding committee formed by President Morsi contains around 700 pages.
Last November, incumbent President Morsi issued a constitutional declaration of eight articles, among them one ordering the reopening of investigations into charges of murder, attempted murder and wounding of protesters, as well as crimes of terror committed against revolutionaries by anyone who held a political or executive position under the former regime.
The new dossier includes confirmation of evidence looked into earlier by Cairo Criminal Court.
“The accusations against the defendants have been supported with clear evidence," added El-Hefnawi.
