Egypt's Al-Mahsama plant wins award for the best world water project
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 23 - 09 - 2020

U.S. online platform Engineering News-Record (ENR), which specialises in engineering and construction news and analyses, dubbed Egypt's Al-Mahsama wastewater treatment plant in Ismailia as the best world project in 2020.
The ENR award is the fourth international award the plant has obtained, being previously dubbed the best project internationally for wastewater recycling in 2020 by the UK's Capital Finance International (CFI), and winning the best infrastructure project award for 2019 in MENA by the Construction Innovation Awards.
The plant has been nominated to be enrolled in the selective projects list for the best wastewater recycling project award, which is given by the Global Water Awards, which will announce the winners during the global water summit in Spain after the COVID-19 crisis subsides.
In April, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated Al-Mahsama plant, which was implemented by Alliance of Metito Africa Group and Hassan Allam Construction, under the supervision of the Engineering Authority of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The plant aims to recycle agricultural wastewater to provide an alternative and sustainable solution for irrigating about 70,000 acres in Sinai, in addition to maintaining the natural environment in El-Temsah lake, located in West Suez, and the fish farming there.
The plant has a capacity of 1 million cubic metres of wastewater per day and is extended over an area of 42,000 square meters.
Karim Meddour, CEO of Metito Africa Group, the leading global company in the field of smart integrated solutions for the management and treatment of water and alternative energy solutions, said that the praise the Al-Mahsama plant has received reflects its level of construction, design, and technology, as well as its effect on the environment and the surrounding communities.
"With the climate changes that the whole globe is experiencing and the limited sources of clean water, there is a dire need to manage the available water resources efficiently and in a way that makes such resources available for all, which is at the top of the state's current priorities," Meddour added.
