Metito Egypt, a water management solutions provider, has been awarded a project worth EGP 1.8bn to develop a wastewater treatment plant and sewage network in the New Alamein City on the Mediterranean as part of a joint venture with Orascom Construction. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2021.
The New Alamein City is considered the first model of the new generation of the millennium cities.
Located on an area of 202m square meters (sqm), it will serve as a model for the progressive and comprehensive urban planning strategy set by the Egyptian government aiming to attract a large percentage of the expected population growth in this area in the coming years.
"Metito will utilise its extensive engineering experience to develop the networks and state-of-the-art tertiary wastewater treatment technology to recycle and reuse treated wastewater for irrigation and land reclamation applications," said Karim Madwar, the managing director at Metito Africa.
The Metito-Orascom joint venture has been awarded the project based on the special expertise and history of the two companies in the construction and water industries and the many iconic projects that make up their extensive portfolio of successful developments, with the latest being the AlGalalah desalination plant, the largest of its kind in Egypt, and a project that has been shortlisted for the ‘Desalination Plant of the Year' award by the Global Water Intelligence.
