Egypt probably reaching coronavirus peak, says health official
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 03 - 05 - 2020

Coronavirus infections in Egypt have reached their peak, with total tally of more than 6,000 cases over the past 8 days, the country's health ministry official said on Saturday.
Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the scientific committee for combating coronavirus at the Egyptian Ministry of Health, told a TV show that the pandemic has started its apex in the country on the third day of the holy month of Ramdan, or April 26.
The number of coronavirus infections increased by 10 percent during the first 8 days of Ramadan, Hosni said, adding that he expected the number of new cases will be flattening off starting Sunday and Monday, ahead of entering a coronavirus ‘stable phase'.
"The numbers on Friday and Saturday were incredibly high," Hosni said.
The state should tighten its restrictions by imposing more precautionary measures and fines against violators, he noted.
"Reaching a stable phase and flattening off the curve hinges on the citizens' compliance with the precautionary measures." Hosni said.
As of Saturday, Egypt has 6,193 coronavirus infections, an increase of 298 from the day before, according to a health ministry statement.
