Protests in various governorates denounce military rule
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 27 - 01 - 2012

Massive protests broke out in various governorates around Egypt Friday, as demonstrators demanded the end of military rule and transfer of power to a civilian authority.
Hundreds staged demonstrations at Leader Ibrahim mosque in Alexandria beginning in the early hours of Friday morning, defying heavy rain to denounce what they deem the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' slow pace in achieving the demands of the 25 January revolution. After noon prayers, protesters marched to the northern district military headquarters, state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported.
Dozens of Suez residents marched after Friday prayers from Martyrs mosque to Arbaeen Square downtown, where they also demanded the SCAF hand over power and prosecute those accused of killing protesters during the revolution. Protesters chanted anti-SCAF slogans, such as “We still hold our heads up high, the military council is affiliated to the ousted president.”
Rasd News, a Facebook-based news agency, reported that a massive march roamed the streets in Damietta, located on the North Coast, chanting “Down with military rule.”
In Mahalla, a large industrial and agricultural city in Gharbiya Governorate, dozens marched against military rule, according to the Dostor online news service.
Similar protests occurred in Minya and Port Said, reported activists on Twitter.
Privately owned Al-Shorouk's website reported that residents of Beni Suef, Assiut, Sohag, Aswan, Sharqiya and Daqahlia governorates also protested on Friday.
Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians demonstrated in various governorates on Wednesday to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of the 25 January uprising.
