EGPYT – Today's Egypt-wide demonstrations are calling for the end of the emergency powers law, an end to the rule of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and an end to police brutality and aggression. Hundreds of Ismailia protestors from all political groups and youth coalitions, including some Islamic movements like the Muslim Brotherhood, gathered after Friday prayers and called on SCAF to hand over power to a presidential council. Protestors in Damietta, led by the April 6 Youth Movement demonstrators, today marched from Bahr Mosque and Nefees Mosque through the streets of the governorate. The demonstrators, chanting, “The Revolution Has Not Ended,” called for an end to military rule and the determination of a minimum wage. Dozens of demonstrators in Minya gathered in front of the governor's building and declared their support for the million man demonstration in Tahrir Square as well as the principles of the January 25 Revolution. In Alexandria, hundreds of protestors marched from Safa and Marwa Mosques to the Tahrir Mosque, despite counter protests by residents and the infiltration of police and military forces in the demonstration. Some claim that security forces incited counter demonstrators. This scene was repeated at several mosques throughout Alexandria, including the famed Kaked Ibrahim, Taqwa and Irshad Mosques. Most of the major Egyptian political parties took part in the demonstrations, including the al-Wafd, Taggamu, Green Socialist and Communist Parties. Some estimate that 30 parties took part and were led by the April 6 Youth and Kefaya Movements. Arabic here Arabic here Arabic here
