Published in Almasry Alyoum on 29 - 06 - 2010

State newspapers Al-Akhbar and Al-Ahram lead with news of a meeting between five Arab league countries in the Libyan capital of Tripoli. The aim of the five-way summit was to consider the next steps for developing joint action of the pan-Arab organization, and a proposal to establish a union of Arab states. The mini-summit brought together Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Qatari Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Yemeni President Ali Abdulla Saleh, and the host, Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, in addition to Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa.
The recent killing of Khaled Saeed, the Alexandrian who was reportedly beaten to death by police officers, still features in newspapers. According to Al-Wafd, the family of the victim say that police statements are contradictory. The European Union has also asked Egypt to conduct transparent investigations into the incident.
Al-Wafd also reports that Sudan has refused to continue its cooperation with the Nile initiative until a solution to the legal problems between the Nile basin countries is reached.
