Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, president of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, on Sunday met with 50 figures from the army, political parties, presidential candidates and revolutionary youths, in order to form an advisory council to help the government during the transition period. “I believe this was a move to make us support Ganzoury's government,” said Mohamed Abul Ghar, president of the Egyptian Democratic Party. “That is why I didn't attend.” Meanwhile, military sources said Tantawi told the military council that he wants to hand over power now, as he feels he was humiliated and accused of treason for the first time in his career, but the council members told him that the current situation does not permit him to resign, and that power should be handed over in accordance to the plan announced last week. Tantawi warned that the military council would not be subject to pressure, and expressed hope that the elections slated to start on Monday would produce a “balanced” parliament.
