The April 6 Youth Movement on Saturday announced its decision to suspend its week-long sit-in in front of the Israeli Embassy in Giza and the Israeli Consulate in Alexandria. Dozens of Egyptian activists began their sit-in after five Egyptian security personnel in Sinai were killed by Israeli fire on 18 August. On Friday, several Egyptian cities, including Aswan in the south, witnessed protests that called for expelling the Israeli Ambassador. A statement issued by the April 6 Youth Movement said it has decided to end its sit-in because it believes that Israel and the American administration understood the protesters' message. The statement further said that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Egyptian government and diplomats should be given an opportunity to impose Egypt's will on Israel and work for achieving justice in the matter. They also said they would wait for the results of the joint investigation to expose the lies of Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak. The statement insisted that Israel offer an official apology for the killings and launch joint investigations with Egypt. The movement also called for expelling the Israeli Ambassador, closing the Israeli Embassy, cancelling all trade agreements with Israel, and amending the Camp David Accords to allow Egypt greater control over all Egyptian territory, including section C in Sinai, which is adjacent to Israel.
