Ex-interior minister imprisoned for another 15 days

Former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly's detention was extended for 15 days pending investigations into charges of profiteering and abuse of authority.
Adly arrived at the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) for questioning late on Sunday amid tight security and was questioned until the early hours of Monday.
The IGA froze the assets of Adly and his family members following reports that their wealth was acquired through illegal means.
Investigations showed the former interior minister registered several of his assets under the name of his German wife.
It was also found that Adly, his wife Elham Sharshar and his children Sherif, Jihan, Dalia and Rania own 44 palaces and villas, one apartment and several plots of land - the total value of which exceeds LE1 billion.
An Egyptian court on 5 May sentenced Adly to 12 years in prison for the illegal acquisition of public funds and abuse of power during the rule of former President Hosni Mubarak.
Adly also faces charges of killing protesters during the 25 January revolution and creating a security void by withdrawing police from Egypt's streets.
He served as interior minister from 1997 until the dismissal of the government in February.
