The number of people killed in the 25 January revolution has reached 840, an Egyptian Health Ministry official said. Hesham Sheeha said the number of deaths recorded at hospitals affiliated with the ministry has reached 384, while the number of injured people reached 6467. The health ministry submitted these reports to the general prosecutor, Sheeha said. He added that the ministry is not in charge of preparing reports for all the deaths. Sheeha said that a report from the health offices, where death certificates are issued, showed the total number of victims has reached 840. Deaths at private, police, military and university hospitals were included. Earlier, rights groups reported that 1500 people had been killed between 25 January and 11 February, the day former President Hosni Mubarak stepped down. Some, they said, died before arriving at a hospital. A rights group report issued last month said that Egyptian police used live ammunition to disperse protesters and that the formerly ruling National Democratic Party was involved in encouraging thuggery and attacking protesters.
