Lawyers want Qadhafis'' Egyptian assets frozen
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 23 - 02 - 2011

Members of the Egyptian Lawyers Syndicate have filed a report with the Attorney General to demand the freezing of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi and his sons' assets in Egypt.
Sources from the Laywers Syndicate said the report also called for the arrest of Ahmed Qadhaf al-Dam, the Libyan leader's cousin, in order to hand him over to the International Criminal Court.
The report accused Qadhafi and his family of committing crimes of genocide against the Libyan people and insisting on perpetrating larger massacres that included not only Libyans but also Egyptians, whose number has yet to be estimated, the report said.
The report further accused the Libyan leader of squandering the wealth of the Libyan people and using it to kill his people and destroy the country.
Qadhaf al-Dam fled the Libyan capital of Tripoli on Monday and arrived in Cairo aboard a private jet with five others. Upon his arrival, he declined to comment on the recent developments in Libya.
Born in Egypt in 1952 to a Libyan father and an Egyptian mother, Qadhaf al-Dam was responsible for coordinating security cooperation between Libya and Egypt. He was considered one of the senior security officials in the Libyan regime.
Arab news reports indicate that he has relatives from the Awlad Ali tribes, who have dual nationality and live on the border between Egypt and Libya.
Reports also indicate that he tried to quell demonstrations in the eastern city of Benghazi, where protests demanding Qadhafi's ouster erupted on 17 February.
