Head of the nuclear reactors department at the Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) Samer Mekheimar said he has resigned in protest against “the haphazard management of the atomic authority.” Mekheimar accused the president of the AEA and some of its managers of financial, administrative and security violations. There is confusion, negligence and a lack of proper security, he said in his resignation statement, which he submitted to the Attorney General. He added that employees gang up against each other, and alleged that drugs were found several months ago in the car of one of the AEA's senior managers. In his resignation statement, which Al-Masry Al-Youm has obtained a copy of, Mekheimer said an engine from the Anshas reactor was stolen and voices suspicions of profiteering and wasting public money. Mekheimar said the AEA gave million-pound tenders to certain companies to install already-existing systems. He added that some professors emeriti have been overseas for prolonged periods but still receive their financial entitlements regularly while the AEA suffers from a lack of funds for maintenance of the reactor.
