In a statement to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidate Sobhi Saleh denied news that he had withdrawn from parliamentary elections in favor of National Democratic Party candidate Mohamed Abdel Salam Mahgoub for the professional seat in Alexandria's Al-Raml constituency. News of Saleh's withdrawal first appeared on leaflets distributed by unknown persons in Alexandria on Sunday. Saleh accused pro-Mahgoub campaigners of spreading the false information in hopes of dissuading his supporters from casting votes. A verbal exchange between the two candidates' supporters in front of a local polling station was brought under control by security forces before it escalated into violence.
