South Giza Attorney General Ahmed al-Bahrawy on Wednesday tasked a team of prosecutors to examine the dead and the injured in the clashes that erupted between supporters and opponents of President Mohamed Morsy in the Bein al-Sarayat district and al-Nahda Square near Cairo University. He also ordered autopsies to determine the causes of death, and to issue burial permits for the casualties. Three Muslim Brotherhood members told prosecutors that they saw police forces kill peaceful supporters of the president in al-Nahda Square immediately after Morsy's speech on Tuesday evening. One said the police specifically targeted his brother, Ahmed Abdel Halim, and shot him in the chest. Sources with the prosecution, speaking on condition of anonymity, said most bodies were of bearded supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. The sources also said prosecutors were warned by certain sovereign bodies not to examine the scene, as there were reports about unidentified gunmen placed on the roofs of the university buildings. According to the Giza Police Station and the surrounding hospitals, 19 people were killed in the clashes and 120 were wounded. Meanwhile, prosecutors are also inspecting the scene on Faisal Street, where clashes between supporters and opponents of the president resulted in 11 wounded people from cartouches and sharp weapons, and the scene on Kit Kat Square, where four people were killed and 63 others injured. Clashes have also erupted on Ahmed Oraby Street, where a number of cars and shop windows were smashed.
