The Supreme Authority of al-Wafd Party agreed yesterday on the executive office's decision to dismiss Abbas el-Tarabili from his post as editor in chief of al-Wafd newspaper after he had asked to be removed due to his health conditions. The party secretary general Munir Fakhri Abdel Nour said the approval had been given, adding that Mr. el-Tarabili would remain vice-president of the board of directors and newspaper representative at the Supreme Council of the Press. He added that the Supreme Authority had entrusted the Party President Mahmoud Abaza with choosing the next editor in chief and a media advisor for the party. Meanwhile, Dr. el-Sayed el-Badawi, member of the party's Supreme Committee, attended the Authority's meeting for the first time after staying away from all partisan meetings for almost two years. A large number of supporters celebrated el-Badawi's return to the meetings and some of them waited for him outside to congratulate him. El-Badawi said he had returned to the party because he felt that the latter needed him in the near future. "Al-Wafd needs all its members during this political momentum that the country is going through." Sources from the party had said that el-Badawi took this decision due to Nour's release from prison and the consequent political liveliness. Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, el-Badawi said that he had not returned temporarily and that he would be very much engaged within the party.
