Safwat el-Sherif, head of the Shura Council, has ended the controversy over the changes in the leadership of the state-owned press institutions, stressing that the terms of all the newspaper chairmen would be extended, except the chairman of Al-Ahram, as he has passed the age of 65. Speaking to ‘Al-Bayt Baytak' talk show, Sherif said the extensions would be applied on a year-by-year basis to the chief editors that have been in their posts for three years, and the chairmen that have been in their posts for four years, until they reach 65.
He said: “We planned to apply this at the beginning of the session, but got held up by the events in Gaza. However, we will not extend to chairmen over 65.” In response to press reports that the president was not briefed of the title deeds issue, Sherif said: “We do not brief him except when we have completed all the studies.”
