Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Ali el-Meselhy said the corruption associated with the distribution of butane gas cylinders and subsidized bread will not end except if the whole distribution system is restructured, absolving the government of the responsibility. He told the American Chamber of Commerce yesterday that misuse of the butane gas cylinders has extended to the villages where the farmers use them for heating poultry farms due to the higher oil prices. He said he would penalize those who do so. As to the subsidized bread problem, Meselhy said the warehouse owners sell the flour on the black market to make more profits, while the bakeries sell the low-quality bread they produce as fodder, which means that the government should not subsidize flour.
