The Central Auditing Organization (CAO) issued a report on the results of the financial control on the Ministry of Justice and judicial bodies. The report, of which Al-Masry Al-Youm got a copy, triggered a crisis while being discussed by the People's Assembly Legislative Committee because it had paragraphs referring to excesses that caused the loss of some LE 46 million. During the Legislative Committee's meeting, some MPs accused CAO of going beyond its competences and intervening in the judges' affairs. They called for re-drafting some paragraphs. The CAO report, which covered the period from July 2007 to June 2008, said less judicial fees than the expected have been collected while others have been dropped, some LE 6.6 million.
Some courts violated regulations and instructions regarding inventory. This led to the loss of LE 140,000. In addition, the prosecution said they did not register and collect fines, which led to wasting about LE 20 million from the state treasury.
Some land registry offices still estimate and collect fees on documentation in violation of the law. This wasted some LE 20 million from the state budget, the report added.
