Two lawyers at the office of Sameh Ashour, the Bar Association's former chairman, have filed a report to the Public Prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmoud against Ahmed al-Khatib, chairman of the political Islam department at Al-Masry Al-Youm. They accused him of waging a fierce campaign against Ashour during the Bar Association's recent elections, which ended in his defeat. Al-Khatib published falsehoods – as Ashour put it – in the Central Auditing Organization (CAO) reports, which were published by Al-Masry Al-Youm yesterday. The report, filed by lawyers Abdel Aziz al-Sharkawi and Mohamed Ihab, said: "Al-Khatib alleged that what he published was the CAO report of 2007 although the report has not been received by the Bar Association so far. All of Al-Khatib's data and information are falsified."
The two lawyers called for taking legal action against the journalist if it was proven that he falsified the CAO report.
Notice: Al-Masry Al-Youm has the CAO reports of 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. It also has all documents and papers proving that it published the truth.
