In yesterday's session, which was devoted to discussing the Israeli aggression on Gaza, MPs exchanged accusations. Disputes started after Muslim Brotherhood (MB) MP Hussein Ibrahim said the decision to attack Gaza had been taken from Cairo after a meeting between Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit and his Israeli counterpart Tzipi Livni. He described Aboul-Gheit as Israel's Foreign Minister rather than Egypt's. The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) MPs got angry and called for Ibrahim's words to be deleted from the session's minute. The People's Assembly [Egypt's lower chamber of Parliament] Speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour agreed to this request, while Minister of Legal Affairs Mufid Shehab rejected what he called speculations on Egypt's stances.
NDP MP Hussein Megawer leveled a bitter attack at MB MPs, accusing the Palestinian factions of not wanting to achieve peace. MB MPs got angry and called on Megawer to stop talking, but he said: "There is an Iranian scheme with Hamas and some MB members to stir up unrest in Palestine and Egypt." Speaking to MB MPs, Megawer said: "If you do not like here, go there" in reference to Gaza. There is a difference between national liberation movements and mass suicide movements, MP Mostafa el-Fiqi said, in reference to Hamas. Meanwhile, independent MP Gamal Zahran raised Friday's copy of Al-Masry Al-Youm with a picture of Aboul-Gheit and Livni hand in hand. El-Fiqi said the picture was only a formality and must not be used to make speculations. Chief of the presidential staff Zakaria Azmi pointed out that while Egypt summoned Israel's foreign minister to Cairo, a Palestinian faction – he did not mention its name, though – launched six rockets on Israel. Independent MP Hamadeen Sabahi called for abrogating the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty and stopping gas exports to Israel
