Professor Soror Stuttering
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 17 - 06 - 2009

The Egyptian citizen may accept that the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Egypt's leaders may regard the deteriorating circumstances of Egypt as good omens; circumstances that render no good omens at all.
Some of the Egyptian citizens, however, may accept that the NDP's leaders keep on beautifying extremely ugly facts. But, it is most likely that any Egyptian citizen may never accept to be addressed as having no sound reason!
Nowadays, some of the NDP's leaders say that allocating sixty-four seats inside the Egyptian Parliament to women for no more than two rounds, not only guarantees the constitutionality of such decision, but it also takes the decision away from any suspicion of unconstitutionality.
Indeed, this decision may, to some extent, have some logic in it. Nevertheless, it makes us wonder: "If logic does exist now, in the existence of such a great number of seats allocated to women, and if there is a deeply-rooted desire by the government to talk to citizens through logical means, then, what on earth is the logic in allocating half of the Parliamentary seats to farmers as well as Laborer Parties, not for two rounds only but rather continually?!"
Since the beginning of the sixties until now, why should logic be present here with women's seats, whereas absent there with farmers and laborers' seats?
Why should it go this way, without any legal or logical authentication? Why should, as far as this political novelty is concerned, we become the laughingstock of the parliaments of the whole world? Why do we insist on making fatal mistakes?
Why are we, for all these years, still so determined to do away with good reason? Why do we insist on divesting the Egyptian Parliament of its meaning? Many whys indeed!
Only those individuals who undertake the propagation of the sixty-four seats among the people know the answers for these painful questions.
Though completely right, the famous phrase that reads "women make up half of our society" has turned to be meaningless, simply because it has nothing to do with reality or deeds. Rather, it has more to do with words, just words.
Undoubtedly, women did have the right to be allocated half of the seats of the Egyptian Parliament. However, with the existence of a quota for women as well as a quota for laborers and farmers, it is so ordinary that in the future, other segments will be tempted to claim their right of a quota of their own.
That will lead to useless controversies that will, in turn, lead to nothing in the end!
Until now, no body knows what the secret behind allocating half of the seats to laborers and farmers is, though such decision was carried out and done ages ago. Actually, such strong adherence to laborers and Farmers' quota is so confusing that it makes one think of as being of sacred scriptures and it just happened that no one had known of that.
On the other hand, it is completely unknown to anyone why should we care to give some logic to the decision of allocating 64 seats in the Parliament to women, while propagating it?
Why, on the other hand, should logic be absent when it comes to the seats of Laborers and Farmers? What sort of logic is this supposed to be? Indeed, it has nothing to do with logic but nonsense.
Why – Dear God – when he held office of Egyptian People's Assembly 18 years before, did Professor, Ahmed Fathi Soror, say that he would have done his best to get rid of all this nonsense; a nonsense that has no existence at any of the parliaments all over the world?!
Short hours after he said that, the man started to stutter each time it comes to the old nonsense, and he still does!
