Yesterday, Hamdi Khalifa, the new lawyers' President, was held in office by the Juridical Committee supervising the Bar Association. At the same time, the Law Committee held a press conference today within the general association seat, in which it declared all the contests it is going to raise against the elections. Khalifa said to 'Al Masry El Youm' that he was held in office by Judge Ref'at El Said, who is responsible for the works of the Treasure inside the Juridical Council, so that the former could start his consultation concerning the formation of a new counsel. Furthermore, Khalifa stated that, he was going to invite the new counsel for a meeting next week to discuss the formation of the counsel. He also added that he should take his new charge as the President of the Arab Lawyers Union, following Ashour, within the next few days. On the other hand, it was reported to 'Al Masry El Youm' that yesterday the first crisis between the new president and a number of the association's employees took place. It came as a result of the disappearance of an invitation directed to the lawyers' president to attend the US President's speech the following day. This resulted in Khalifa meeting with a number of his employees, whereby he asked for their full co-operation in the new era to come. He stressed the necessity of finding the lost invitation, as well as the need for all employees to work side by side for the benefit of the entire association, rather than individual acts. Khalifa refused to give any comments in relation to that crisis saying, "Here is the invitation in my hand, and I will attend the speech." Professor Mohamed Farahat, international law professor, said that a law of some description needs to be established with the mere purpose of giving the Egyptian Lawyers' President the legal right to be the president of the Arab Lawyers Union. This should be a sign of gratitude to the role played by Egypt and its previous late Gamal Abd Al Naser, who first established the union in Garden City in Cairo.
