Cairo - Adviser of Egypt's Mufti Magdy Ashour denied that the celebrations of Sham El Nessim (Spring Day) violate the Islamic Sharia, saying that it is a matter of tradition and not related to worship. The Egyptian cleric, who serves as an official in Egypt's Fatwa House, added, in a televised statement on Sunday, "Allocating day for celebrating the spring, October War's memory are considered social habits and does not violate the Islamic law." Sham El Nessim is an Egyptian national holiday marking the beginning of spring. It always falls on the day after the Eastern Christian Easter (following the custom of the largest Christian denomination in the country, the Coptic Orthodox Church).
