Cairo - Al-Azhar Observer in Foreign Languages strongly condemns the twin bombings that targeted visitors to Shiite shrine in Damascus on Saturday, March 11. The attack left at least 40 Iraqis killed and 120 others injured who were en route to a shrine near the Syrian capital, Syria's state-run news agency reported. Al-Azhar Observer reiterated its firm position that categorically rejects any criminal attempt or act on innocent civilians. The Observer also warned against the using innocent people as pawns in political games in which one party tends to put pressure on other party with no regard to human life. The Observer stressed that the teachings of Islam prohibits and criminalizes the killing of innocent civilians on the basis of their religion, sect or general orientation. Lastly, Al-Azhar Observer reaffirmed its full rejection of any criminal activity carried out by terrorist groups such as ISIS, or Daesh in Arabic, and its kindred groups, while calling on both the Arab and international communities to work together for radical solutions to the problems of terrorism and extremism from their roots.
