Cairo - On Thursday, US-based newspaper Washington Free Beacon revealed the backstage meeting between officials from the Obama's administration and Mohammed Sultan, son of Dr. Salah Sultan, a Muslim brotherhood (MB) leading member, just a few days before the Obamas' departure from the White House. The newspaper reported that Obama's administration was keen at all times to support the leaders of the Brotherhood till its last days in office. The Obama administration has come under fire in the past for hosting official members of the Muslim Brotherhood, which some lawmakers in Congress have sought to designate as a terrorist organization. The newspaper pointed out that Mohammed Sultan, a US citizen, is closely linked to the group since his father, Dr. Salah Sultan, is an MB senior leader. Sultan was previously imprisoned in Egypt after the revolution of June 30 that toppled MB's President Mohamed Morsi. In mid-2015, Sultan was sentenced to prison for his role in aiding and abetting the MB execute its subversive protests across Egypt. He was released after a long hunger strike thanks to the Obama administration's efforts to pull him out. The Newspaper drew the attention that this meeting exposed that Mohammed Sultan was lying about his disassociation from the Muslim Brotherhood, noting that he thanked President Obama for his unwavering support to the group throughout his time in office.
