Star Africa Egypt's Gheit appointed new Arab League Sec Gen After initial disagreements, the Arab Foreign Ministers' Council has finally appointed Egyptian nominee, Ahmed Abul Gheit as the new Secretary General of the Arab League. Geit's appointment was made during a meeting of the organization's foreign ministers in Cairo on Thursday to appoint a new successor to Nabil Al-Araby, after he announced last month that he would not be running for another term when his current one expires on 1 July. Six Egyptians and one Tunisian have held the post since the founding of the Arab League in 1945.
