Cairo Criminal Court will resume Tuesday, trial of 213 defendants allegedly affiliated with Ansar Bayt Al-Maqdis group over terror-related charges, Al-Bawaba News reported. The defendants face charges of committing 54 terror-related crimes, including attempting to kill former interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim, bombing several security headquarters across Egypt, joining a terrorist group that aims at obstructing the provisions of law and constitution, assaulting citizens and spying for the interest of Hamas. The Sinai-based group, that recently renamed itself as the Province of Sinai, has carried out deadly attacks against police and army personnel since the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 amid mass street protests. It had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) in 2014.
