Hundreds of residents of Cairo's populous Al-Darb Al-Ahmar district participated in the funeral prayer of the taxi driver who was killed by a policeman after a quarrel late Thursday, Al-Bawaba News reported Friday. The ceremony, which was attended by top security leaders, witnessed tight security measures by police units, while the mourners chanted slogans against the police. Egypt's Interior Ministry media office said in a statement that the incident took place Thursday night following an argument over the driver's fare in Cairo's Al-Darb Al-Ahmar district. The officer shot and killed the driver after a short dispute. Local media outlets quoted the residents of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar saying the officer had verbally insulted the driver and when the latter objected, the policeman shot the driver in the head. He was beaten by some eyewitness but managed to fled the scene. The accused policeman was badly injured and was transferred to the hospital where he was seized by the security upon the prosecution orders.
