Egyptian Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail praised Monday the atmosphere in which presidency elections of National Council for Women (NCW) were held, Al Bawaba News reported. The elections were held in a civilized atmosphere, which reflected the true image of Egypt, admiring the role of Egyptian women over the years and their role in the political and social life, particularly in the current period, Ismail said in a statement to reporters. The elections brought Maya Morsi as the new NCW head, with a majority of 17 votes while her nearest competitor, Azza Hekal received 11 out of a total 30 members who voted in the elections that took place at the cabinet headquarters, downtown Cairo. The elections were held after President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi had issued a decree last Sunday to form a new council. Ms. Morsi has worked as the head of the regional team for women empowerment policies and gender equality in the UN Regional Programme since 2013.
