The Egyptian army thwarted Monday an attempt carried out by Wilayat Sinai terrorist group militants to seize control over one of the military checkpoint in North Sinai's Rafah city, Al Bawaba News reported. The army clashed with the militants near the checkpoint, killing four militants and wounding six others. Security source said that two officers were wounded in the clashes, pointing out that they were transferred to Arish Military Hospital for treatment. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai terrorist groups, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
