Somali intelligence officer was seriously injured after a bomb exploded in his car in the capital Mogadishu, Al Bawaba News reported Sunday. Somali Radio Shabelle news cited an eyewitness as saying, "the explosion had hit a car belongs to an intelligence officer at Hamrawein district." The eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, pointed out that police forces cordoned the explosion scene and transferred the injured officer to the hospital. The Hamrawein district spokesperson accused Al Shabab extremist insurgents of targeting the intelligence officer's car, while no claims of responsibility are yet announced. The Somali Al Shabab group carried out similar bomb attacks targeting foreigners, Somali soldiers and members of the African peacekeeping force (AMISOM). Last month, Al Shabab claimed responsibility for the bloody attack in Mogadishu, which hit a convoy of diplomats from the United Arab Emirates, leaving at least 15 people killed, including soldiers. Al Shabab pledged earlier to escalate their attacks in Somalia targeting members of the AMISOM force, during the holy month of Ramadan.
