Istanbul- The pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak had attacked the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on its front page for Tuesday's issue, claiming that German authorities had detained Aljazeera journalist Ahmed Mansour with no legal reason. "Merkel can never erase this shame," Yeni Şafak said on the main headline on its front page, referring to the arrest of Mansour, describing it as "Law scandal." Mansour was arrested at Berlin's Tegel airport on an Egyptian arrest warrant on Saturday, raising questions inside political German circles about the reason of arrest, since Egypt and Germany don't have extradition agreement. He thanked Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for supporting him in his detention, saying that he was the only leader in the world that called the German government to release him, describing Erdoğan as the "World Hero." Egyptian court sentenced Mansour to 15 years in prison in 2014, for torturing a lawyer in Tahrir Square in 2011. Mansour is known for his controversial opinions, Egyptian social media users accused him of racism and discrimination against Egypt's Christian Copts, over a post he punlushed on Facebook on January 22, claiming that most of Egyptian leaders were hostile to Islam, because their wives were actually Christians.
