U.S. Department of State's annual report on the status of terrorism in the world in 2014 praised Egypt's efforts in combating terrorism and extremist groups, as well as enhancing the security of its borders, Masrawy news reported Friday. The report said that the army and police forces under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi continued the fight against terrorism, especially in Northern Sinai province. The US also praised the actions taken by Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to support the fight against terrorism through the issuance of legislations to address the issue of the flow of foreign fighters to the Islamic State (IS), according to the report. Egypt has taken actions to combat terrorist groups such as Wilayat Sinai and Ajnad Misr, which have carried out numerous terrorist attacks against the Egyptian government and army troops in Northern Sinai, Cairo and Western Sahara, the report said. The report pointed out that Al-Sisi-since his election as president in June 2014- focused on the fight against terrorism in Egypt, as he made the issue of fighting terrorism one of the pillars of his first-ever speech in front of the United Nations last September. The report highlighted the repeated condemnations issued by Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Al Azhar against crimes committed by IS .
