Egyptian Lawyers started Saturday a one-day general strike to protest police assaults and violations against lawyers in different police stations across the country. Chairperson of the Bar Association, Sameh Ashour called for the strike last week in response to the assault on lawyer Emad Fahmy in Damietta's Farskour police station, prompting anger among lawyers across the nation. "No reconciliation with the ministry of Interior," Ashour said, affirming that the syndicate will punish any lawyer who breaks the strike. Egyptian courts have, nonetheless, resumed Saturday the trials of Muslim Brotherhood defendants, while no lawyer attended the sessions. Egyptian lawyers went on strike on several occasions before protesting judiciary and police assaults.
