Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat said the international community and the United Nations were responsible for resolving the Yarmouk refugee camp crisis, Al Bawaba News reported Friday. Erekat urged the U.N. and the international community to protect and provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian refugees in Syria's Yarmouk camp, as well as other Palestinian refugee camps. The Yarmouk Camp, the largest Palestinian refugee community in Syria, is an unofficial refugee camp established in 1957 in Damascus, comprising a number of hospitals and schools. Since 2011, the camp has witnessed fierce clashes between the Free Syrian Army, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and terrorist groups.
