Cairo Criminal Court designated Saturday Wilayat Sinai group (Sinai Province), formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, as terrorist entity, Al Bawaba News reported. Egypt's General Prosecutor, Hisham Barakat said in a statement he demanded the court to put the group's founder, Mohammed Tawfiq Freij as well as 207 of its members on terrorism list. According to Egypt's Terror Law enacted by cabinet in 2015, an entity is labeled as terrorist by virtue of a judicial verdict. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai after it had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting military and security personnel.
