Violent shootout erupted Saturday between Egypt's military and militants south of the North Sinai city of Sheikh Zuweid, leaving four militants killed, Tahrir TV channel reported. A security source who asked to remain anonymous told the channel the four militants were in a vehicle when the shootout started. A woman was severely injured during the shooting and was quickly transferred to Al Arish hospital, the source added. Eyewitnesses told the channel they heard sound of heavy gunbattle in the southern regions of Sheikh Zuweid. Egypt has launched a severe crackdown over terrorist elements in the restive Sinai Peninsula following a string of deadly blasts against security personnel and civilians.
