Fighters battling against the Iranian-backed Houthi militias in Yemen are making progress, the Saudi-led coalition spokesman Ahmed Asiri said on Thursday, stressing that the coalition aims for a safe and secure Yemeni state. Asiri made the remarks to Al-Hadath, the sister channel of Al Arabiya News, shortly after he finished his daily military brief in Riyadh on the Saudi-led strikes. During his press conference, the spokesman said coalition airstrikes have targeted fuel storage facilities seized by Houthi militias in Yemen. Asiri said the fuel is being seized by Houthi militias and forces loyal to deposed leader Ali Abdullah Saleh. He also said a large number of relief shipments will arrive at Yemeni ports soon. The coalition also continues its aerial supply of weapons to pro-government forces in Aden, he added. Asiri mentioned that the situation in the Yemeni governorate of Taiz is stable. He also noted that the coalition is avoiding hitting civilians in its war against the militias who swept across much of the country last month. Asiri added Houthi militias have continued to target Saudi territory with mortar shells. He also called on Yemeni brigade commanders to support the legitimate government affiliated with President Abdrabby Mansour Hadi and to protect the Yemeni people.
