Tight security measures were applied Sunday in churches across Egypt to thwart potential terrorist attacks during the ‘Palms Sunday' celebrations, according to reports. Security forces were deployed to the cathedral and the religions complex, car parking was banned in churches' vicinity, and "explosives detection gates" were placed on their entrances. Suez Security Director, Maj. Gen. Tariq Al Gazzar said the ministry is "implementing an integrated security plan to safeguard churches in various districts." "Police forces are ready and vigilant to deal firmly with the outlaws," he added, affirming that police forces were deployed everywhere across Suez. He confirmed that all the churches' surroundings have been scanned by civil defense experts to detect explosive devices.
