Wilayat Sinai claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks that took place Thursday in Sheikh Zuwaid, north of Sinai, which left 12 soldiers and three civilians dead, Al Masry Al Youm newspaper reported Friday. The terrorist group issued a statement on Twitter, saying that its militants have used rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons in the attacks that took place in Sheikh Zuwaid. The statement added that the attacks targeted seven security checkpoints on the coastal road between the town of El Arish and the Rafah border with the Gaza Strip. Military Apache helicopters conducted Thursday air raids on militants' hideouts in Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah, leaving 35 dead. North Sinai security Director, Maj. General Ali Al Azzazi revealed Thursday that military ground forces killed 15 militants, adding that the wounded were rushed to El Arish international hospital for treatment.
