A homemade bomb blew up near a telecommunication tower Wednesday on the Fayoum-Beni Suef highway in Upper Egypt, bomb disposal officers defused four other explosive packages. No casualties have been reported. Authorities also received reports of an explosion near a military checkpoint at the entrance of the Beni Suef governorate. Bomb squad officers and civil security forces were deployed to the scene to inspect the area. The attack is the latest in a series of similar incidents targeting electricity substations, towers and circuits in several parts of the country.
