The Egyptian Army killed 38 Islamists in an overnight raid launched on terrorist hideouts, in Sheikh Zuweid, North Sinai, a security source said Wednesday. Apache helicopter gunships targeted 18 militants riding in four vans. Another 20 militants were killed when the Army bombed a residence, a school and a youth center that had been taken over by the terrorsts. Another 28 militants were wounded, the source added. The source pointed out that the raids started late Tuesday and continued until early morning on Wednesday. Egypt's state news agency, MENA, said that unidentified gunmen had kidnapped the local director of a water distribution company from his home in Sheikh Zuweid. The Armed Forces also foiled two car-bomb attempts targeting security personnel in Arish and Rafah and defused five explosive devices planted on a highway in Arish.
